It will be a battle between experience versus youth as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with Delhi Capitals in the seventh match of the Dream11 Indian Premier League at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The vast experience of CSK will be challenged by the young Delhi Capitals team, led by 25-year-old Shreyas Iyer. After squeezing past Kings XI Punjab in the Super Over in their first match at the same venue last Sunday, Delhi Capitals will be eager to continue their winning run. They were slightly lucky to get a couple of points on Sunday as Mayank Agarwal almost guided Kings XI Punjab to win.
The DC will have to come with an extraordinary performance to get the better of three-time champions CSK. They received a jolt when their experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was injured while trying to stop the ball in his follow through after snapping two wickets in the previous match. He is unlikely to be fit for the CSK encounter.
Iyer along with Rishabh Pant will have to fire to put up a strong total against CSK. They might be tempted to include seasoned Ajinkya Rahane in the playing eleven after dropping him for the last match.
On the other hand, CSK will be itching to get going after facing a rare reversal against an inspired Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. The CSK have always held the upper hand in battle against the DC and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be eager to do the same this season.
Last year’s runners-up CSK have won four out of the last five outings against Iyer’s side. Moreover, CSK’s overall head-to-head record is 15-6 in 21 games which gives them a big advantage. Last year in India, DC once again lost in the second qualifier against CSK.
Dhoni side’s confidence must be dented by the 16-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals but they have the experience and power to regain the right momentum. They have two points from two matches after winning the opener against defending champions Mumbai Indians. Dhoni, who was criticized by the experts as he batted lower down the order, might promote himself in the batting order to boost the scoring-rate.
