JALANDHAR: Bachelor of Arts 3rd Year student, Jyoti Baliyan at Lovely Professional University (LPU) has recently been selected for Para World Archery Championship-2022, which is to be held in Dubai from February 19 to 27.
With dexterity in handling bow and arrows, Jyoti is now aiming to grab the top medal of the prestigious World Archery Para Championship for India. With the world’s best in competition for eight different categories, the championship will reveal great action throughout the event.
Hailing from a middle class farmer family of Uttar Pradesh; LPU’s Jyoti Baliyan is to represent India as one of the country’s consistent performers, against all odds. In fact, a tragic action struck her at a very young age that resulted in her having life-long polio. She could not become the volleyball player of her dreams; however, her indomitable spirit made her one of the top Para-archers in the world. LPU is providing her 100% scholarship to be able to fulfil her aspirations of both sports and studies. Now, she puts India in strong contention for a medal in the team and individual archery events at the ‘Games’.
Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal shares: “It’s a matter of pride for all of us that LPU student and Tokyo Paralympic participant Jyoti has now once again been selected for a coveted competition at world level. Jyoti has been a super athlete, and we wish her to gather more accolades for the country, university and self.” Presently taking coaching from Mentor Pawandeep, Jyoti is anticipating to exhibit excelling performance in Dubai. Prior to this also, she was the only woman Indian Archer to be sent to Tokyo for participation in Paralympics. Currently, she is the biggest medal prospect of the country. She is to compete in the women’s compound individual and mixed team events.
