NEW DELHI, February 25, 2025 — Suresh Kaushik, a former sports editor of Hindi daily Jansatta, passed away in Delhi on Sunday (Feb 23) due to cardiac arrest. He was 72.

According to his family members, Suresh, who was asthmatic for several years, had taken a dip at the Sangam in Prayagraj recently and had also suffered pneumonia.

Suresh Kaushik and I had joined the Express Group in the late 1970s. While I joined The Indian Express sports department, Suresh became part of Jansatta’s sports wing. We used to cover several sports events together for our respective newspapers.

Suresh was a good sportsman in his college days. Hewas a good footballer and had played in the Delhi Soccer Association tournaments, representing New Delhi Heroes. He also participated (along with his father Kewal Kaushik, Shaaji to fellow journalists) in several cricket tournaments during the 1980s, representing Delhi Sports Journalists’ Association in the all-India sports journalists competition for the J.K. Bose Trophy. He was also a prominent member of the DSJA in all SJFI activities including pitching for better working facilities for fellow colleagues during all National Championships.

During our over 45 years of association, I always found Suresh supportive, loyal and compationate. He was always happy in life and never ever showed or expressed any regret in his profession or in life.

He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

The tragedy, however, is that his 96-year-old
father Kewal Kaushik is alive to see this devastation in his old age. May God give Shaaji enough strength to bear this massive loss. May Suresh’s soul rest in eternal peace.
