
Kolkata, 5 June 2026: A press conference was held today at the Conference Hall, Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, to announce the World Bicycle Day Celebration under the Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement, scheduled for 7 June 2026.
The press conference was chaired by Shri Nisith Pramanik, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Youth Service & Sports, Government of West Bengal, in the presence of Shri Sibananda Mishra, Regional Director (In-Charge), Sports Authority of India, Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre (NSEC), Kolkata.
Addressing the media, Shri Nisith Pramanik emphasized the importance of cycling as a simple, sustainable and effective means of promoting fitness and healthy living. He encouraged citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in the movement and make physical activity a part of their daily lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sibananda Mishra highlighted the success of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement, which has engaged over 30 lakh cycling enthusiasts and reached more than 7 crore citizens across the country. He appealed to people from all sections of society to participate in the World Bicycle Day celebration and strengthen the message of fitness and active living.
The World Bicycle Day Celebration under Fit India Sundays on Cycle will be organized by the Sports Authority of India, Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre (NSEC), Kolkata, in association with the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of West Bengal, on Sunday, 7 June 2026, at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
Shri Nisith Pramanik, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of West Bengal, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Government of West Bengal, will attend as the Special Guest.
More than 5,000 participants, including cyclists, sportspersons, students, youth and fitness enthusiasts, are expected to take part in the event.
