LAUSANNE, July 1, 2020: Let’s continue to present the rich panel that will attend the 1st AIPS e-Conference on July 2. The event, which celebrates the World Sports Journalists Day and the 96th anniversary from the foundation of AIPS, will bring together journalists from all over the world and a prestigious group of panelists from all continents, who will share significant perspectives regarding the challenges that the sports media culture is called to face in this time of change. To date, over 628 journalists from 129 countries have already confirmed their participation.
THE PANEL The international panel titled “Has Covid-19 affected journalists’ independence and future?” will bring together some of the most influential voices in the sports media sector. The American continent will be represented by the Sports Columnist from USA Today Christine Brennan and the Editor in Chief from the Mexican media outlet Récord Carlos Ponce.

CHRISTINE BRENNAN (USA) is an award-winning national sports columnist for USA Today, a commentator for CNN, ABC News, PBS NewsHour and National Public Radio, a best-selling author and a nationally-known speaker. Named one of the country’s top 10 sports columnists by the Associated Press Sports Editors three times, she has covered the last 18 Olympic Games, summer and winter. In March 2020, Brennan was named the winner of the prestigious Red Smith Award, presented annually to a person who has made “major contributions to sports journalism.” Brennan was the first woman sports writer at The Miami Herald in 1981 and the first woman to cover Washington’s NFL team as a staff writer at The Washington Post in 1985. She was the first president of the Association for Women in Sports Media and started an internship-scholarship program that has supported 175 female students over the past two decades. Brennan is the author of seven books. Her 2006 sports memoir, Best Seat in the House, is the only father-daughter memoir written by a sports journalist. Her 1996 national best-seller, Inside Edge, was named one of the top 100 sports books of all-time by Sports Illustrated. Brennan earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in journalism from Northwestern University. She is a member of the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame, Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism Hall of Achievement, Northwestern’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the Washington, D.C., Sports Hall of Fame.
CARLOS PONCE (MEXICO) If he hadn’t injured his knee, he could have been a footballer too. But he decided to live the sport from another place, from the press box, to tell the stories of the idols. Studied journalism at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and communication at the Iberoamerican University, then specialised with graduates such as Narrative by Raúl del Campo Jr. or Interactive Marketing at ITESM, until completing the International Master of Business Administration in Soccer from the Cruyff Institute. He started in the communication business distributing the local gazette in his neighbourhood with his bicycle; on radio, he went through Televisa Radio and Radio Centro; on television he started at TVC and today he collaborates with Azteca Deportes; He wrote in Futbol Total magazine until he reached RÉCORD 14 years ago, where he has been editorial director since 2014, positioning the medium among the three with the highest traffic in Mexico, the best-selling sports newspaper and leader in the industry’s interactions on social networks.
